13. Cooking Partners
Bob Cake decides that, while waiting for The Vengeance to be seaworthy again, he will give his young apprentice, Billy, a cooking lesson in the garrison messing hall of Port franklin, with the help of the head chef.
The resources available here are far more extensive than those provided by the rudimentary facilities aboard a ship. It is an experience that young Billy cannot afford to miss if he hopes to fly on his own wings in the culinary world one day.
Both men get started working. A palpable sense of excitement fills the air from the outset: Billy wants to prove to his mentor that he is now capable of doing well!
Backstage
Three instruments executing three melodic variations dominate this piece. The first represents Bob and is drawn from a vintage patch on my Yamaha TX7, which was then transferred and reworked into the Korg Opsix. The second, representing young Billy, is played on the XILS-Lab's PolyKB III. The final theme, which arrives only at the end of the piece, represents the head chef and is performed using U-He’s essential Diva.
